Best Drones Under 500 USD

Whether you’re looking for the best video drone under 500 or just want the overall best drone under 500, I’ve got my top 5 picks for you to choose from!

DJI Phantom 3 Standard

The Phantom 3 Standard by DJI is an absolute classic quadcopter that everybody knows and loves. It’ll set you back around $455, but don’t let that price fool you, it’s certainly not a drone that’s only for the professionals. It has a lot of aspects that beginners like yourself can make use of, too!

Here are the features and the specs:

  1. Uses a camera with 2.7K video footage and 12MP still photos and 720P HD real-time video transmission through your mobile device
  2. Able to live stream your real-time transmission from up to half a mile away using the DJI GO app
  3. Uses a 3-axis stabilization system for the camera to ensure there’s no shaking in your videos or blurring in the images you take
  4. Features Follow Me, Point of Interest, Waypoints, Automatic Takeoff, Automatic Land, Beginner Mode, and Return to Home
  5. Has a total flight time of up to 25 minutes

The biggest pro that the Phantom 3 Standard by DJI has to offer is the camera. 2.7K video footage and 12MP still photos are definitely hard to beat! Paired with Beginner Mode, some general know-how, and you’re good to go!

The biggest con, however, is that you shouldn’t rely on the built-in guidance system. Even though it’s basically advertised that it will help you do almost everything, that’s not really the case. In short, be prepared for something to fail, because once it does, you’re going to have to manually control whatever is going on, as with any other drone, so don’t let the whole guidance system be the deciding factor in your purchase decision.
